Is Christ Your Consuming Fire?

"Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up
the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power,
and of love, and of a sound mind."
2 Timothy 1: 6-7
***********

Years ago in America, the early settlers would build fires at night
to keep the savage animals away from their campsites. If the fires
burned low, the animals would come close. When the fires were
burning brightly, the animals would back away in fear from the
light and heat.

There are many things in America today which have drawn near to
the Church, such as humanism, materialism, and secularism, because the   fires of men's faith have died down. In today's modern society, the focus   in many gatherings seems to be on how to be "healthy, wealthy, and wise"    instead of how to live a holy life before God and as a result, be blessed.

When we read God's Word, we see the Holy Spirit is likened to fire.
He is always in the Believer although sometimes He is given little
place. To some, He is only a resident, but not the President, or allowed to be  Lord   of their lives. We must let Jesus be number one and our "all in all" in   every part of our lives. When we daily surrender to the Lord and present   ourselves as a living sacrifice, the fire is stirred. When the fire of God is   burning brightly in our lives, oppression, depression, defeat, and discouragement   will have to flee, as God arises. The Bible tells us when we let God arise, His   enemies will be scattered.

It's good to know that when we let Jesus be Lord of all, we'll burn brightly   for Him. The things of the world will seem dim in the gospel light of the   Lord. May our prayer be to stir the fire of the Lord and let His light   shine that He may be glorified.
